VR is an advanced technology that is revolutionizing the world of mental health. More than 30 years of scientific evidence validate the therapeutic benefits of VR software technology in the treatment of phobias, other anxiety disorders, substance-related disorders, eating disorders, psychosis, ADHD, and ASD (Emmelkamp et al., 2021) by showing higher acceptability from patients than traditional therapies (García-Palacios et al., 2007).

VR is non-invasive and safe technology that is based on the projection of interactive 3D graphics through a VR device (headset and headphones). The VR helmet isolates external stimuli for the user, transporting them to a different and unique environment operated and under the care of a mental health professional. It is in this “virtual” environment, designed by and for healthcare professionals, that the therapist has the possibility to control what is happening depending on the client’s needs.
